How to get around Brisbane

Getting around Brisbane is simple thanks to the city’s public transport options and pedestrian-friendly design. Navigating your way around the CBD is particularly easy – take advantage of the free inner-city bus services or hire a bicycle for the day. When time is short or your destination is far, you’ll find there are plenty of Brisbane taxis to choose from as well. If you’re keen to explore the Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast, the region’s comprehensive train system can take you north or south. Alternatively, if you prefer to hire a car during your time here, these stunning coastal destinations are only a short motorway journey away.

Taxis

There are several taxi companies available to book in Brisbane, including Black and White Cabs and Yellow Cab Co. You can order a taxi with a phone call, online using the appropriate app, or simply by hailing them. There are also taxi ranks conveniently located in the CBD as well as popular shopping centres and restaurant precincts.
Brisbane taxis can be hailed from the street or at an official taxi rank.

Buses

Travelling by bus in Brisbane is an affordable way to get around. If you're travelling around the CBD, you can take the free City Loop and Spring Hill Loop bus services. These services operate Monday to Friday and provide access within the Brisbane CBD, as well as between the Brisbane CBD and Spring Hill areas. For longer stays, consider buying a go card – you'll save money compared to purchasing paper tickets.
Brisbane buses cover the city and surrounding suburbs.

Trains

The Brisbane train service can take you in all directions, making this a fast and affordable way to get where you need to go. If you're travelling in the Greater Brisbane region, Brisbane's trains provide direct connections to the inner city as well as popular precincts and outer suburbs. The South East Queensland train system is also convenient for taking a day trip to the Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast.
There is an extensive train network throughout Brisbane, which includes the Airport Line.

On foot

Brisbane accommodates pedestrians with walking paths that make it easy to navigate your way around. Popular areas such as Fortitude Valley and South Bank are within walking distance from the CBD, with two footbridges connecting the inner city to South Bank. Getting around on foot is also a great way to immerse yourself in the local charm of Brisbane.
